Shinde Hospital
The proposed project is a Gynecology and Pediatric Hospital with an attached doctor’s residence, located in a Tier-3 city of India. Positioned at the junction of two roads, the building holds the opportunity to become a landmark in the growing urban fabric. The design seeks to go beyond a purely functional healthcare facility, instead creating an institution that is both welcoming to the community and sensitive to its context.
The hospital opens up at the road corner with a double-height waiting area that acts as a strong visual anchor for the building. Within this space, a staircase rises from the ground floor to the first floor, giving a sense of openness and visual connection with the street outside. A small garden court is integrated into this volume, softening the clinical environment and offering patients and visitors a sense of relief and calm.
The building is organized as G+3. The ground floor accommodates the reception, OPD waiting areas, consultation rooms, diagnostics, and pharmacy. The first and second floors house in-patient wards, treatment spaces, delivery suites, and supporting medical facilities. The third floor is designed as a private residence for the doctor, allowing for both convenience and privacy while remaining connected to the hospital.
Responding to the character of small cities, where buildings are often constructed close to one another, the hospital maintains privacy and comfort through thoughtful façade treatment. The south and west sides are protected by metal perforated screens that double as green walls with space for creepers. These screens not only shield the interiors from harsh sunlight but also reduce heat gain while adding a natural, healing quality to the architecture.
Overall, the design aspires to create a patient-friendly and climate-responsive healthcare facility that seamlessly integrates nature, privacy, and functionality. The hospital thus becomes both a community landmark and a symbol of care for the city.
